I would love to hear from other Softplan users who upgraded to version 2020 on your thoughts of the new upgrade.

Been thinking of upgrading but reading through the forum I'm seeing that there are a lot of bugs and glitches.

Is upgrading to 2020 worth it?

Absolutely.  Any issues that I have run into have been quickly resolved by tech support so far.  Usually you can find a work around if needed, but all in all, this has been a good release adding some long awaited features.

I read this and boy did I want to say NO.

I upgrade to 2020 as soon as it was pre-released in late March and have been using it ever since.

I had to use 2018 yesterday for older drawing and it was almost calming knowing how it works so well.

If you are a SoftPlan+ subscriber I would say yes.

If you have to pay a large upgrade fee I not so sure.

That's a real tough call.

The new upgrade is definitely worth it !

There have been many improvements and upgrades that have been previously requested and now implemented.

With software as complex as SoftPlan you can always expect some issues and many of those have been fixed.

Don't forget that V2020 was "pre-released" to those who wanted to help identify some of these issues!

There are also improvements (like annotated elevations) that will require additional coding and features added before it can replace standard elevation mode.

This was true when plan sets were added, There was a lot of customer feedback and over several upgrades it has become one of the best features in recent years.

Have at it !

I would say HELL NO!!  lol

This has been such a buggy update.  (understand the pre release...  We totally expect that)  However it is officially released at this time.... sooo..I am very disappointed in softplan on this one.   They have a lot of good ideas with it,  but needs alot of work..   Very surprised they have this many bugs.  (they maybe should have kept it in pre-release a little while longer)

For example..  They have a new feature that lets you see line of site (where your say standing in kitchen you can see outta window in greatroom on side...  (not really helpful for anything we would do.  but understand some people may use it)  They did a feature like this.  But your roofs on mulit floor go crazy and lift up in the air when you open the drawing every time.  (I think they finally patched that after 3 months)

I like the idea of the annotated elevations.  but they need alot of work.. (especially since we are heavy into softlist.   So you have to sometimes draw walls a certain way so they appear correct for softlist.   but my not look correct for the annotated view.

Over all the years of using softplan (since 1995)  Their updates have always had great feature updates and worked great.

I personally don't see alot a value at this point to upgrade.   It feels like to me they rushed this update out just to get one out to keep up with competition..

But I will say The one thing I always  like about softplan is they are quick to fix issues.   Their customer service is really good!

I'm thinking it would be wise to upgrade and continue evolving with the platform.  There are bugs and growing pains with everything.....my new Samsung phone updates almost every night with hotfixes for programming changes.

Current my rant is the evolution of System/Project/Drawing default settings and how to use and change them efficiently for my work flow.  I couldn't imagine skipping a few updates......the learning curve to play catchup would be a terrible thing.

Bret

Ya we have been submitting alot of tickets on everything.  You guys have been good a trying to answer/ fixing problems..  So appreciate it..   We have 8 keys we use in our design department currently.  So we all have been working on getting you guys tickets when we run into issues.

There has been alot.   Especially cause all 8 of us are constantly drawing for about 8-10 hrs a day..

But appreciate the customer support you guys have.

We do have alot of suggestions as well if you ever want feed back for future stuff or other fixes.  We are pretty heavy into the program..  Our drawings are very detailed and we are big into softlist..

Thanks man

The Keynoting and pdf import to shapes features is almost worth it alone.

We imported a 3D sloped site from Google earth.. That was pretty slick...
As was importing PDF as vector..
Ceiling trusses were useful (are they new ?) as were the gable end decorative trusses..
The save / load drawing options might change the way we have been using particular files as "templates"...
Auto load recovery files, if a crash or computer problem, is nice...
There's a lot to like..
Seems stable enough to us...

I forgot about the autorecovery. That is an underappreciated feature.

Yes.  Joe could not have said it better.  Stay with the platform.

The accent truss is wonderful.

Autorecovery, like Michael said.

Lumion export.
