This really frustrates me to no end.  Something that should be so freaking easy takes 45 to an hour and still can't figure out how to do it.

I have a building on a site.  and the building is at a 60 deg. angle.  I want to move the building 15' horizontally on the site which is 60 deg. off the building angle.  I CAN NOT window the whole building due to the complexity of the site.  So when I try to move the building the cursor rotates to match the building.   That's not what I want.  How do you lock the cursor angle????   Or how do I move the buliding in a direction that is not perpendicular to the walls???

Press F12 to unlock the cursor, then you can move it wherever you want.

Sorry, that does not solve my problem.  No matter what angle I set the cursor to, when I pick on my building that is set at 60 deg. the cursor resets to 60deg and I can't move the building at 90 deg.

I don't do math so I can't figure out what the 60 deg then 30 deg move would equal 15' horizonatlly.

I hear you Dennis. It can get verrrryyy frustrating sometimes. For lack of a better method what I do is put a line or a construction point where I want the building to move to. I make that line long so even if I grab a bit of it that line won't move. I then block move whatever it is I'm trying to move and snap it to the end of my line. Crude but it works.

I figured out a work around (but why was this necessary).

I drew a horizontal line, then ctrl picked the building, then ctrl picked the line.  Then picked MOVE.  That fooled the cursor into locking on the correct angle and I moved the building 15' horizontally JUST LIKE I've be trying for the last two hours.  Why is such a simple and common operation so hard????

It's pretty much the only way to move something in the x or y direction if it sits at an odd angle. I often use a small line or some shape that is oriented in the direction I want to go. You could even go as far as drawing a line the exact length and direction you want to go and then snap to it's ends. It would be nice if we could set a cursor direction lock when moving such things, but the work-around isn't too bad.

There is a difference when you use move block vs selection set move. Move Block will not use anything other than x and y coordinates.

I found the trick with site plans it to put the building and everything that goes with it on a group. That is easy to do in the very beginning. However, you can selection set everything you want to move and then assign to a group as well. I understand that this does not solve exactly what your are going through. But ti solves most other issues.

I do my site plans a little different. Maybe not the best way but it has work for me for many years. When I have a house plan, I draw a line around the perimeter of the house and any patios and porches. I put these line on their own layer (Foundation Outline). I then hide everything on the drawing except for the layer "Foundation Outline". Now I go to System Library and turn this layer into a symbol. I can then place this symbol in my site plan and can manipulate it anyway that I need to.
