We use 3/4 lite front doors a LOT, and I can only find 1/2 lite front entry doors

in the library.... Is there anyway we can get a 3/4 lite added!?!??!

Of course.  You can make whatever opening you would like.

Just follow this tutorial.  It will apply to your scenario.  Best tutorial ever made.

That's not really the best option but.... I guess It will have to do for now.

It seems the instructions don't really apply to 2020 either... When selecting a symbol, it won't let me select what I drew.

I agree that it would be nice to have a generic 3/4 lite door. It is pretty popular in our area as well.

I could get interested in a SoftPlan+ from Simpson Door Company which again is popular in our area and has a selection of 3/4 lite doors.

As far as I'm aware, there's no reason why that tutorial won't work in 2020.

I agree it's probably not the best option though. It would be better to have standard 3D modelled doors. However, having said that, the Manufacturer library has a number of 3/4 lite doors available - Try under Therma-Tru

Have you looked through the manufacturer product codes? You might find something there. At very least it would be a good starting point.

Therma-Tru may be the best place to start.

I've use that Therma-Tru door before as-is and have created library openings from it.  I can never get the grilles to display properly from it.

Just a few sets of these in the generic Entry Door library, with corresponding sidelites and transoms would be awesome.  Or pretty much any brand is fine w/ me when new Manufacturers are added to the libraries.

There are a ton of outdated openings and symbols (all categories of symbols - electrical, furnishings, plumbing, etc.) that could be purged from the SP system. Adding more relevant product representations in both categories would be great!

While it is possible to edit and create all sorts of doors, it would be nice if the system had much more variety and a simpler method of working with more of a dynamic component style. It would be nice to be able to control the overlap of trim to jambs, the jamb style, the jamb thickness, the door panels, the sticking sizes, etc. per project, drawing, and individual opening. I know we have some control, but it is primitive.

Need some new pickup trucks in the symbol library too. All we have are '84 Ford Rangers.

I'm able to switch between a number of doors including some 3/4 lite once in the 2D elevation mode.

But that get's aggravating having to remember to do it every time. There seems to be a vast selection in 2D elevation symbol selection when it comes

to doors. But there's very little in the 3D list when you're drawing in plan mode.

I have used Therma-Tru doors and had issue with the grilles as well. That is why it would be nice to have a generic 3/4 lite door that we can modify the grilles like we can on french or dutch 1/2 lite doors.

I had grill issues with Therma-Tru doors also. If I remember correctly the fix was to explode the elevation opening, edit the glass polygon to add a bead and save it as a modified opening.

The Therma-Tru doors in the library that don't have grills aren't equipped for grills, unlike the standard library openings.

Here's one that I made. It needs a little fine tuning.

That looks great Richard.  Did you create a 3D symbol too?  Or just in 2D?

No just a 2D, I'm not very good at 3D. After I finished it I found this (8304) door @ https://www.captivacustom.com/  they have 2d cad drawings of there doors.

If someone wants to make a 3D symbol of this door I have attached a zip file of the syp file.

I'm going to try and make the door into a 3D symbol, it will take a while. I don't use Sketchup very often so it will be a lot of trial and error.

You may just find one in SketchUp 3D Warehouse you can use. Or find a door you can work with and edit to get what you want.
