Here is the service manual for this printer:  http://rtellason.com...esignjet500.pdf

Here is the user guide in case you don't have it:  http://www.hp.com/ct...l/c00748239.pdf

Thanks Jim, but I already have one and still have the users guide that slides in on the side when I purchased it I want to say somewhere in the 90's.

Moved from 2012 to 2018, having issues with printing plan sets.

Sometimes I can print a plan set, and sometimes I cannot print a plan set, running windows 7, HP 500 designjet, the HP has a little age on it.

If I close softplan and reopen, sometimes it allows a print, sometimes it doesn't, the print dialog box doesn't show up when it doesn't print, no issues on a newer Epson desktop printer, any advice?

The only issue that I have had printing plan sets is that if you open a Project but don't open a Drawing File, and then right click on Plan Set to Print, it will look like it is doing something but nothing will happen. So I just open a Drawing File or the Sheet that I want to Print and then I have no issue.

I have Exported to a PDF and then Printed that but I usually downsize my PDF files to 300 dpi for emailing purposes so I usually prefer to Print straight from SoftPlan.

I am not using an HP printer though. We have a Ricoh W3600

Thinking about it. the belt is one to one, as the carriage is fixed to the belt ... I think ... Rather look at something that drives the belt - although in that case it shouldn't leave a gap. More of a double line.

Just throwing out idea's ... in retrospect none of which seem to make sense.

Keith, I found the problem with the gaps. I found this company online that has free tech support on plotters  https://www.lpscomputer.com/  . It was the Drive Roller Encoder Sensor $60 no more gaps.

So was it a paper advance problem or a print head movement problem?

And boy how lucky you are to have been able to find out which sensor the problem was and find a reasonable replacement.

It was a Paper Advance problem. They have the parts and have a lot of how to video's.
