Soooo I finally upgraded from V13 (yes, I know). Now I have a new shiny 2020 along with a new shiny laptop and am struggling to get going.  I am trying to open a V13 .spd floor plan and it says it's open but I don't see anything on the screen.  I do plan on reading the manual, but I'm swamped with work and just need to get going asap. I'll learn the ins and outs as I go.

Best way to open a V13 .spd file in 2020?  I am certain this is breathtakingly simple, but all the versions I skipped now have me on a pretty decent size learning curve.

Never mind. It was definitely user error. I'll get there eventually. But not without driving you all crazy with questions along the way.  What i CAN say is, WHY DIDN'T I DO THIS SOONER. I might as well have been drawing on toilet paper with crayons as much time as i've wasted using the older version.

Be gentle with yourself Wendy. Toilet paper and crayons are valuable commodities too you know. :) Glad you decided to come back to the future though!

I worked for an engineer who still draws everything on wax (transfer) paper with markers. He eventually get's it into autocad but... all his initial design, hand drawn.

And he submits it to customers that way for bids, and usually gets them.

Anyway, yes upgrading to 2020 is definitely worth it in my opinion. You'll love all the features once you find them.

Well, I would like to see the engineer submit something to the cities today. Everything now has to be digital format or they won't accept, at least the cities I deal with in Texas.

Me too!  I have a customer, a "retired" architect who still draws 2-3 really nice custom houses each year.  By hand in pen and ink.  Then gives me fully complete drawings to put on cad.  I've told him (just once) that he could just have them scanned and submit those but he doesn't mind paying my full price to get cad files.

It was a design company so, we never submitted to any entities like that. Just design work & manufacturing.
