Change the roof material from asphalt shingle to standing seam material.  In 3D, go to materials and select the metal and color you want.

I know that.... i want to use a " PROFILE".  Not a texture

I believe the profile is only for the ridge caps, not the roof main body.

could you create a profile, put it on something in the drawing, then in 3D copy & paste surface to the roof?

NO.  It only copies the "surface"

I think the standing seam "roof" would look close to the "board and batten" profile.  Maybe make it a little wider

I think a profile on the roof for standing seam would take it to another level.

Although i am very pleased with the standing seam textures I use from Keith Almond until then.

But they are just textures, Allen wants a real 3D profile.

Standing seam is an illusion using 2 heel height roof planes.  The rafters and ridge beam which simulate the standing seam are associated with the higher heel plane.  Great out of the box idea which i can not take credit for....something Randy Cohn was great at.

This same logic is also useful for wooden stairs that need a carpet runner down the center....have a second stair slightly raised down the center to simulate carpet.

Very cool Joseph.  However it would be nice if it can be done more like what Allen is asking so that for us that are using Softlist would be able to keep it simple and accurate.

Thanks for all of your input. A suggestion has been made to add the ability to use profiles on a roof surface.

See if this can be apart of 2020....Exterior 3-dimensional profiles are the way to go.  It adds so much realism.  I hear it over and over how the renders looks like actual photos.

If you want a true standing seam roof you can export to Sketchup when all is finished and use the Roof-Nui plugin to create a true standing seam on your roof plane. When you render it will look real.

I understand! Unless you are really going for an impressive submittal to a customer the time you can put into those extra bits of realism are not worth it.  SoftPlan actually does a really good job by itself getting the point across for a project.
