I've just started to look at the board and batten and I was wondering if anyone knows how to make the distance between each batten 16'' or 24'' ?

If you are talking about a profile in your wall definition, I made a new profile in my siding library and that  seems to be working for me so far.  I'm not sure where SP starts and stops the repetition, so it may look like an overlap in some spots while in 3D views.  Regardless, using profiles in 3D to see depth look so much better than textures.

Sam when editing the board and batten surface in 3D you can adjust the spacing by increasing or decreasing the horizontal distance.

Adjustments made in paint by increasing or decreasing the horizontal percentage. Align battens to center on ridge etc. using the offset.

Ditto... I created my own.

I tried the 3D surface and nothing changes.  In paint, yes that works.   I guess I am going to need to go the new profile route.

I use the SP board and batten as well as Mitten siding board and batten that I imported. I work in the texture and rendered modes a lot and I can change the spacing by adjusting the horizontal number either up or down as Steve and Carla mentioned. If you go too wide, the batten part gets thicker, but up to about 3' spacing, it looks just fine.

Softplan should stop and start the repetition at the size of the profile ... if you draw the profile EXACTLY what you want to see - 1" x 10" board and 1" x 2" batten, then that is what Softplan will draw.

If like Sam you want the battens at 16" or 24" centres then that has to be the overall size of your profile - Not sure how they so 16 and 24" centres on board and batten in the field ... If anyone can tell me then I've have learnt something else today.

Using textures, extending the horizontal percentage does work, but will look a little stretched. You would be better creating (or have somone) create an actual texture that size.

Profiles are very under-used and under-valued (or at least I under use them). They are quite powerful and very easy to create.

Sam, examples that do not appear stretched to my eye.

The siding is 4" adjust to 5" with 125% vertical adjustment.

The Shakes are 5" adjusted to 7.5" with a 150% Horizontal

adjustment and the Board and Batten is 16" OC using a 133%

horizontal adjustment.
