Hi, I'm attempting to import a dwg file of a site plan from an engineer. I'm importing as I usually do, but after I click Open, the box closes, and nothing appears.

I tried:

File > Import > DWG/DXF (Import)

and

File > Import > DWG/DXF (Convert)

Both ways nothing happens. No error message. It just imports nothing.

I also tried Zoom, Extent in case it imported in a weird location, but still nothing.

Sorry if this question has been asked before!

Thank you!

-Marcie

Have you tried to see if it's on a layer that's not on?

Did you scroll to the bottom of the layer list?  Imported layers get added to the end.

Yep, I've got Default and Layers 1 thru 20. Nothing new to indicate a file even imported. Totally puzzled!

Not sure how to accomplish in Softplan yet but I have had similar issues with importing dwg into other CAD programs as well.

Often surveyors will reference a benchmark or something sometimes miles away. When importing, zoom then shows the whole drawing including reference and is so small nothing displays on screen. Try zooming in on regions of drawing screen over and over again until something may show up. In Archicad I can select all and zoom in on the highlighted hot spots of the selected items.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! The dwg was apparently created in the newest version of autocad and Softplan version 2018 couldn't open it. I'm now running v2020 and the import worked just as it should. I'm having a Monday!...on a Tuesday

If you ever run into a similar issue, because sometimes SoftPlan does not update as fast as AutoCAD with their new versions, then I downloaded the free Autodesk TrueView DWG Viewer. It allows you to open the AutoCAD file even if you don't pay for AutoCAD. But even better it allows you to down convert to earlier versions. So then you would be able to import into earlier versions of SoftPlan.
