Does anybody out there use Vitruvios to do their structural designs, and if you do are you having problems? Also, which software do you like better Vitruvious or StruCalc?

StruCalc no longer exists. Vitra (short) bought the rights to strucalc users list and business entity in exchange for them to go away. Too bad as Strucalc was a very good program that filled a need. Vitra is way more than the layman needs and is expensive and not nearly as intuitive. No other program out there that honestly compares to strucalc.

What are  you looking for in a structural program?  I spend 40 hours a week doing structural work?

I use Weyerhaeuser Forte for all engineered wood members (both SPF and manufactured wood products). Best part is it is free.

The Weyerhaeuser, Boise & LP software is good as far as it goes which, for me, is not far enough. Plus they seem to all be switching to cloud based which also nixes their viabililty for all of us who suffer from crappy internet service. Cloud based programs cut a lot of us out.

I keep getting emails from Vitruvius that say they have released Strucalc Legacy for those who like the old version.

That is true...I have already bought Strucalc years ago and recently lost the program on a hardware issue on my computer.  You have to pay the $60 per month to get it now.

Dennis - what version did you have? No disks or saved download? I can send the version I have if you can load it, add your license info and be back up and running??

I had version 9 with load tracker.  Thanks for the offer but I don't really use it much anymore.  I made the decision a couple years ago to send everything to a structural engineer instead of doing it myself.  Not near as much liability...lol!  It just irked me that they want to charge you for something that they know you already bought.  Thanks for the offer Mark!

I get that. I actually bought it and gave it to my engineer. He is the one who uses it, and I only have it "just in case".

I have been using Forte for quite some time but ever since they converted to the Web version I have bee disappointed.

I have spoken with our local TrusJoist rep and actually got a copy of the Javelin software that the lumber yards around me use.

SoftPlan has a feature that allows export to Javelin which I have not had the time to fool around with yet. But Javelin will actually take the 3d model and frame down the members and link all the point loads from the model.
