I've got some basic lines drawn in my floor plan representing a matchline. In CAD you can lock a layer and all commands will ignore anything

on the layer... I've tried that with Softplan, but locking the layer doesn't allow dimensions to ignore it. Still trying to dimension to the line.

I guess I can turn the layer off, then dimension my plan, then turn the layer back on, but, that will become annoying very quickly.

You can "uncheck" shape dimension in the top right hand corner. It will be highlighted orange. Recheck if needed.

You can also use ... Dimension > Dimension Point

You then select what you to want to dimension from and to.

That will ignore everything in between.

Yeah that doesn't always work the best but, it is an option.

It would be nice if dimension point would have a continue mode, so just keep picking points to create a dimension chain, similar to how AutoCAD works.

This is working for me as the easiest solution for now.

Where do I find the "uncheck shape dimension" option?

Martin, it will be in the menu bar when the dimension tool is selected. Just like the option to attach when moving is selected, etc.

Geez! It only took me 3 years to learn about that one. All this time I have been manipulating the shapes to get them out of the way for my dimension strings. I never use the dimension tool - I have always been a right click/dimension kind of guy.

FYI-
I believe this works for Stairs as well. You can dimension between the stud walls without catching the stairs if turned off.

I have said many, many times that SoftPlan is not complicated ... but it is a very deep pool.

So many tools to use ... and to learn !

Thanks SoftPlan

Not only that, in a lot of cases, MANY different ways to achieve the same results.
