I have been using color in my plansets with other CAD programs for 20+ years. Am I missing something as to how one can control color output of plansets?

When in the plan set page edit the page and check "print using screen colors"

Assuming that you don't want to print in screen colours ... and I certainly wouldn't ... the best way to achieve colour in your plansets is to configure some (or all) of your pens to print in your preferred colours.

Have a look at this thread ... http://softplan.com/...94-pen-settings

Do you have an example of how you want to use colours?

I use colours extensively in my work and have no issues. I've even created 750 COLOURED BITMAPS (1056 x 816 pixels - 8½" x 11" at 96 dpi) based on the WIKIPEDIA "List of Colours" to use as paints (normally shade paints) to colour large areas independently. At the time that was all the colours wikipedia listed, but they keep adding more, and I haven't kept up. However, I think 750 is probably enough for most people.

If anyone would like them, let me know.

Yes I have used color in plan sets for 20 years. They read better and colors can be used to delineate between all the different building components. Here is a simple colored planset.

I have also completely customized all my walls to also extensively use different pen thicknesses and colours. The "Out of the Box" wall configurations are almost useless in my opinion.

And here's something I've complained about on a number of occasions, and no-one else seems to have noticed:

When the OUTSIDE is on the left of the wall, WHY is it on the right in the definition itself - OUTSIDE VISIBLE, OUTSIDE PEN AND OUTSIDE COLOR should be on the left of INSIDE VISIBLE, INSIDE PEN AND INSIDE COLOR ... it's a much more intuitive layout.

May I ask??

I use Color only for Logos, Electrical Items and Brochures. All Construction Docs are printed in Black and White, thus defeating the purpose of any COLOR added to the plans.

The cost is astronomical to print a full set of plans in color. Sure, it looks nice, but it is just not worth spending the time to do, if it never gets used. So why do it?

ALL our drawings are printed "in house" in colour ... either on an 11" x 17" colour photocopier, or our HP T1600 plotter. Every customer gets coloured copies. we don't print anything in black and white ... EVER

I am getting set up to "print" in color as well, but only in the sense of "convert to pdf".  A lot of submittals in my municipality are electronic now and the plan check is done on the computer rather than a piece of paper.  I think the color makes it a little easier to do on the screen rather than black & white. I still print in black & white for paper plan sets.

Interesting. I guess the difference is we/I do not print full size plans at all.
All Plans are sent electronically PDF to the customer or builder. No matter what rainbow of colors we use, they print all construction docs in black and white because it is the cheapest route via UPS store or other entities.

Also, I have noticed my electrical plans (all electrical items are printed in Red) when printed in black and white the electrical symbols and connections are “lighter” grayscale in color. Sometimes it is hard to see.

I wish Softplan had a way to PDF in color but actual print pen is true black and white so it prints clearly on the paper plans.

If it is able, please let me know how.
