Hey All,

Trying to duplicate the railing in the attached image. Softplan has the option to add a railing cap, but it just adds the cap on top of the current rail with no option to offset.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Eric Muntz

Make a custom handrail profile that includes both top rails

I include the lower and mid rail as a standard handrail with extended posts then add a second rail system with only the top rail turned on.

Here's an update.

I used Martin's option, so there are two railings drawn there. It wasn't all that east to add a railing on top of the other. I will make an attempt at a custom handrail profile next time as Keith mentioned.

Thanks guys.

How do you make custom exterior rails with horizontal cables? Now that the code in BC has changed to be inline with the national code which allows horizontal rails/cables I’m getting requests from builders to have something different.

in the past ver 8-14 I would simply draw lines on a 2d elevation but with 2020 I’m trying todo more 3D stuff, but finding these things frustrating, not to mention all the other “work arounds” lol, really like this forum for getting help.. thanks

Gary you may be able to draw cubes with stacked offsets to create

the cables for 3D. jpg 1/2" x1/2" x 36' cables offset 6" apart. Adjust

spacing code

You can edit your railing and design as you like.  Use round spindles and set them to horizontal.  Change the spindle finish to one of the numbered finishes and then change the texture in 3D.  Once designed, you can Add Definition so you will have it next  time.
