What are your recommendations for comprehensive framing information?  I have various books which covers a lot but interested in more than the typical ones found at the local bookstores.  I have plenty of info from the manufacturer's, APA manuals, etc.  But sometimes an independent book or textbook may be better.

Thanks,

Kevin

Kevin,

A Roof Cutter's Secrets by Will Holladay.  The first few chapters are on floor and wall framing, and the rest of the book covers just about every roof framing style. It is heavy on the math (and using the Construction Master calculator), but has lots of diagrams.

The Very Efficient Carpenter by Larry Haun. Has a lot to do with production framing, but shows a ton of framing techniques. Larry Haun was and still is highly respected as a carpenter. He passed away in 2011. Google him, and you'll be able to watch several videos he did for Fine Homebuilding.

Lastly, consider a subscription to Fine Homebuilding online or JLC online. You will have access to every article that has been in those publications.

I almost ordered, A Roof Cutter's Secrets by Will Holladay, last week but the prices vary between 20 to 30 dollars to over 100.  Can't figure it out why.  I too have watched the Larry Haun videos and they are very good.  He was a good guy.  I did want to see if the Cutter's Secret showed up on the list.  I probably picked it up many many years ago at the Builder's Show but never bought it.  Guess it is time.  The idea of JCL online as they always had interesting building techniques but I have taken the magazine nor FHB in years.  Thanks very much for the replies.
