Hello,

We designed and constructed a project on an acreage lot.  We are getting more into 3D modeling and I want to try to do some shot points, adjust topography, import Google Earth topography, etc.  Historically, I've only used siteplan in a somewhat generic form to label approx. water lines, utility easements, etc.

I'm have entered all the site lines based on the engineer's plat map.  I adjusted site line lengths, bearings, etc.  It all looks accurate but I can't get anything to adjust, for the life of me, to place the building where we actually built it.  Here is a better explanation:

1.  I created a building outline and I was able to place the building outline in the site polygon on the site plan tab. When I place this plan at the bottom of the model stack, it does not show up in the model and all I see is my project floating in blue sky background (in space basically).

2.  When using the site plan mode in the main floor plan drawing, I can't move the building within the site plan, rotate it, etc.  The site polygon sits below the building and when I moved them now I have all sorts of messed up things in 3D (baseboard extending into space, tray ceiling floating outside the house, etc.).

I was just wanting to create the actual siteplan and place the as-built house on it to show the rendering vs actual construction on our website.

Any advice?

Thanks!

Start with using reference points for each floor stacked in the model.

If you're editing the elevation of the site plan, you'll need to make sure the house it set at the right elevation as well.

Jon Davis: Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.  I currently have reference points to appropriately align the main floor with the basement.  Do I need to insert one in the site plan for that same reference corner as well?

Yes. You can adjust the buildings position on the site by moving the reference point.

You will also want to go into the site plan and go to DRAWING OPTIONS > SITE OPTIONS and CHECK to box for BUILDING POSITION and adjust the ELEVATION OFFSET to suit

Here are a couple screen captures showing the simple site plan (building outline and site lines).  Also shown is the 3D textured image where the ground is nowhere to be seen.  Any ideas as to why?  I did check the building position box and it doesn't seem to matter where I set the offset, I can never see the ground on this one.

Check extraction options and make sure "site polygons" is checked.

Did you add the site plan to your model?

Thank you for the replies.  Yest, the site plan is added to the bottom of the model stack.  Also, yes, the site polygon is selected under extraction options.  Still can't figure it out.  Thanks.

Is it a closed polygon?

After looking at your screenshot, your building outline is shaded showing its a polygon, but the site isn't. The Sites not closed. Zoom in to each corner to see if there're connected. SoftPlanTuts has some good tutorials on Site Plans.

It turned out the site was just barely not closed.  Thanks to all!
