How do I fill in the gable on this porch with the cathedral ceiling? I tried adding a wall with Rake top fit to roof and rake bottom - no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Bryan,

That's a good question, I have been wondering how to fill that space for quite some time also. In recent times, we have gone away from the scissor truss in favor of the parallel chord truss. This way I can now use the frieze board to cover that opening.

I have offset a wall to top plate of main walls and added a triangle window so I can always adjust the width and height needed. Then I do not display the framing, glazing, and bead but can still add Exterior frame.

You can also do it with 2 walls ... meeting in the centre ,,, That way you can rake top and bottom and adjust to suit with the heights in the multi height section.

Ben

I have never thought to use a window for this application. I keep learning new things from the forum.

If you're using parallels then you can add a ceiling to match and make it extra thick. I've even added 2 ceilings. one thin to give a ceiling finish inside, and one thick to show a different finish on the gable.

Softplan also suggested the 2 wall approach.

Thanks everyone for your responses!
