I would like to know is the upgrade to 2020 from 2014 worth the cost?  What are the main differences in 2020 that everyone likes the best?

If I were you I would just go with SoftPlan+ program and live happily ever after.

It's definitely worth the upgrade if you're using software that old. You can see all of the benefits of softplan + here: https://softplan.com/?page_id=699

I bought the 2020 upgrade just so I have the base program to keep using if something happens to Softplan plus, plus is included for a year when you upgrade. I will be subscribing to plus when the year is up to be able to keep using the cloud and additional content.

I updated from ver 14 also, lots of new features, I especially like plan sets, way better than multi drawings, annotated elevations and sections are good, but take some tweaking to get them the way you want them.

check out the you tube videos on ver 2020.

If you are active in drawing for the industry it is important to keep up with your drawing software.  Many needed improvements since 2014.   Upgrading is just part of your process of designing and improving your skill.

I'm still on Softplan 14 and it's working well for me. I'm now working with a firm that uses Softplan 20. How do I view their drawings? My Softplan won't open them. And will they be able to convert my SP14 drawings to their SP20?

SP is not backwardly compatible.  I see that as a big mistake.  using 14 you can not view their files at all.  They can use 20 to use your files, but if they save them you can not open them again.  So you must be sure that you keep your files separate and back them up.  If you're going to be doing a lot of work for them you may have to bite the bullet and upgrade.

I'm using a new Asus VivoBook which is working fine for Softplan 14. I understand this laptop may be slower for Softplan 20, which I'm considering upgrading to, but will the Asus work or will I need to purchase a more powerful laptop?

On Softplan's website they list the minimum computer requirements. Check there first and then if you have any questions just give them a call. They are a very helpful group of people.
