I don't know how many of you draw this way, but I put detail markers on my floor plans referencing the details. These markers show detail number, floor plan page number, and detail page number. I have often wished that these labels could be generated and be live like cross section and elevation labels and markers. That way I wouldn't have to renumber everything if details got moved to a different page or pages were moved or inserted in the plan set. I recently came up with something that, while it is slightly cumbersome, works well. For those of you that use interior elevations quite a bit in your plans sets, this might not work so well, but I seldom show interior elevations.
Here is the process:
- Place an interior elevation marker on the drawing wherever you want to reference to a detail
- Generate the elevation
- Save As the name of the detail
- Open up the saved elevation
- Erase everything on the interior elevation drawing
- Import or draw the applicable detail
- The detail can now be added to a plan set page, removed, changed to a different page, plan set pages can now be arranged and the labelling on the floor plan and the detail page will always be correct just like elevations.
