Is there  a way to create different materials in the wall plane as seen in 3-D?  I understand I can create different walls types with siding A, B, C, etc.  However I have a design where materials will be overlapping horizontally and vertically.  I am wondering if there is a way to accomplish this is 3-D?

Use the "Transition" function of the wall?

Thanks Phil - If I understand, this will create a horizontal transition for that particular wall type?  I am looking to do more variety.  create "patches of material that wrap beneath windows.  I am wondering if there is something that can be used in the live elevation mode?  Here is an example

Some have had success using wallpaper on the exterior and changing the size and height offset, or perhaps using solids...

Yes.. I'm one of those that uses the Interior Mode tools on exterior surfaces...
Wallpaper, or paint, is quick way to get, say, three different siding colors.. or easy way to change the exterior material at the peek of a gable..

To get that grid type trim pattern I see on your PDF, onto a model, I might use "bands" for the horizontal trims, and perhaps use solids for the vertical trims..
