I feel sometimes that we are being left behind.  I have been using Softplan for about 15 years and really enjoy working with it.  I am feeling like we are not seeing some items that would enhance our performance as many other software companies have.  I wish we had a direct tie in with Lumion as well as with Canvas.  I sell many 2 d drawings with limited 3d and Softplan does a fine job.  Softplan renders are very good but I also sell many projects that require high end renders and for that I use Lumion.   I also use Canvas with the Iphone 12 max and question why we are in the minority when it comes to main stream design software users to be the last to get these items.  Its not so much a complaint but a concern.  Maybe we just haven't gotten to the big version release that will answer all my questions.....but I am getting a little frustrated.  I will state that Softplan has been very good for my business ...but its time to step up.

Any ideas or am I just whining?

Jeff

Jeffrey:

I agree that SoftPlan has been lagging in some respects.

As far as your higher quality renderings are concerned, have you ever investigated TwinMotion from Unreal Engine? It can do every bit as good a job for a whole lot less money.

Go to their website and see what they have to offer. I think you'll be amazed.

The only thing they are lacking is the fact that they don't have plug-in to SoftPlan. Fortunately, SoftPlan has a "work-around" that is not too difficult to create high quality renderings.

The tutorials are on YouTube from getting started to more updates as they are released. The name of the series is The Rendering Essentials.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks!!

And here we are 3 + years later and Canvas still does not export to SP.  I spent time with a rep and the best they could do was send a CAD drawing that I would have to trace over and add openings, THEN model the roof etc.

Does anyone know if SP will be on board with this?

canvas and all the other scanning apps suck.  No accuracy at all unless off by a few inches is good enough for you.  Until they can be accurate within 1/2 inch and include all door and window and cabinet sizes, I'll stick to hand measuring in the field and drawing on my laptop as I move from room to room

Sounds like its more of an issue with these other companies rather than Softplan because those companies have to write the software that would allow for Softplan to be able to import their stuff.

Absolutely ...

For other companies to support Softplan, they have to write routines into their software. There's nothing Softplan can do to fix the issue.
