Hi, ..

 

Has anyone used a KIP Plotter (Konica Minolta) with Softplan?

 

If so, .. did you find they worked well together or not, ..?

 

Any thoughts appreciated, ..

We have had 2 different Kips over the last 10 or so years. Honestly, they were the worst plotters we have ever used. Constantly breaking down, wasting paper, etc.

We switched to an HP Designjet XL 3600 MFP just before the new year.

My advice would be to stay away from Kip. The company we use for all of our printers has stopped offering the KIP.

Yes but, I found the best way to use the KIP was to use the onboard software... You can access it by typing in the IP address (you're IT person or KM associate should be able to help you with this when they set it up). This takes you into the KIP system where you can manage a few settings, as well as load jobs for the printer.  It will also let you know your paper status, etc...

 

The problems I had with our KIP were mostly software bug related... When we first got it it froze alot, there was a LOT of rebooting necessary. We finally got all that worked out when the KM tech replaced the motherboard. But it took a lot of calling and complaining to get to that point where they were willing to replace it under warranty. 

 

The other issue I had after 2 years of use the wire that heats up got dirty and the prints were coming out smudged. This is a VERY thin wire and according the the KM Tech (who cleaned it once) it was better to just have it replaced instead of trying to clean it. 

 

I left the company before that issue was totally resolved, so I'm not sure if they ever replaced it or not. 

 

Granted I was running 1000's of sheets through this thing. Over the course of 2 years I had run in the 6 figures worth of linear feet of paper through it.

All of our Hardware is HP now, so we'd probably stay with that line, ..

 

We've been offered a used KIP model for a reasonable price, .. but if a New one had those issues mentioned, I think we'll pass.

I have used a KIP plotter for 15+ years now and had no issues.  That being said, I have an older model now, but it is still going strong for me.
