Daniel you could uncheck the bottom chord of the gable accent in editing.

Add a bottom chord beam with desired vertical curve deflection. Setting shown for bottom

chord in attached file.

Thank you,

recommendation works.

1) do i need to draw a separate solid piece to make the vertical leg extend below the underside of beam?

2) How do i change the color of this modified beam without making all other beams the same color/texture.

Thank you

You can change the material you have set for that beam so it is different than all others. And, you can use a post or solid shape to represent the king post extending below the bottom chord.

Funny you should ask.  10+ years of SoftPlan, my home designs and exterior and interior decorative arched trusses....forgot how many different ones I've actually designed.  whew!  i've started to fabricate them in my shop in my spare time.

I either create them in sketchup or softplan as solids then export them to .dwg then re-import them as symbols in the symbol wizard...works pretty slick!

Nice work Joseph - I really like your designs and style. Cutting and assembling them in real life is even better. Great to see those types of details actually get built.

Once clients settle on a look I typically draw or modify almost all timber accents in SketchUp. I find it much quicker and more controllable than in SoftPlan. For those who don't use SketchUp it is all possible with solid shapes in SoftPlan. Just gotta think through the assembly and offsets of the different parts.

For me, SketchUp is a great addition to SoftPlan. Cutting different views, sections, parts, and adding hardware is also better with SketchUp.

Thanks Mark!

Agree Sketchup is a great tool for symbols, when I create in SoftPlan I need to clear the model then use my symbol drawing ONLY in the model in order to create a .dwg of the symbol 3d, this process is a little time consuming but necessary to achieve what's needed.

Looking forward to see what 2022 has instore for us with symbol creation!

Joseph, interesting to see them designed and built by the same person.  I have not had to do many trusses over the years.  I used Sketchup many years ago but did not keep up with it, time to get back to Sketchup.  What material do you use in your truss construction?  They are nicely done.

.

Usually 8/4 poplar if primed and painted or western red cedar if not painted.  I used to lag screw and glue with galvanized lag screws and tightbond III then backseal the holes with dowels now i use Kreg HD screws and tightbond III.

Steve,

There is no option to UNCHECK the bottom chord, and in my testing, even changing it to 0 still leaves a line.

Is that what you intended?
