I have tried for an hour to make my dimensions grab the outside of a board &batten wall . It keeps stops on the interior side and puts the 3 1/2” dimension on the exterior side. Is the something I’m over looking, tried all the different settings to no avail. Thanks Steve

Go to your wall definition, by editing the wall and select definition at bottom left, at dimension and extension for board and batten, open up and select outside on both.

then the way I usually do the dimension, is open dimensions and select "dimension point and click at outside of board & batten, then go to where you want to measure,

This will skip all that 3 1/2" stuff by using "Dimension Point".              There are other ways to adjust the "Wall definition that would work, but this is how I would and  do it.

You can get rid of the wall thickness display in dimension settings (drawing options, project options etc) as well. Uncheck the box that says

"Display wall thickness"

"Line through wall" doesn't do anything, so far as I can tell.

If you go to the help (user's manual) menu and search for that term you'll be directed to a page that instructs you

on editing dimension settings. There's an illustration that shows dimensions with and without "line through wall" checked.

They look exactly the same to me.

"Line through Walls" controls the appearance of the dimension line when dimensioning to multiple points on a wall i.e. thickness, it has no effect when dimensioning to only a single point on a wall i.e. inside or outside edge.  The Help illustration is not very clear but the two states are different.

Hope this clears up any confusion.

Other than the captions below them, I see no difference in the 2 images.

There is an actual line that goes through the wall when the "line through walls" is checked. There isn't when it isn't.
