Good morning and I hope all are staying as warm and safe as possible.

I am considering, (going to), upgrade to 2020.

My question is, will it be the same procedure as 2016 to 2018?

2016 projects open in 2018, 2018 opens in 2020?

Thanks so much.

Hi Doug-

Yes, Softplan is forward compatible, but not backwards.  2018 will open in 2020, but 2020 will not open in 2018.

Check to see if there is a grace period in which you get the upgrade to 2022 for free, if you purchase 2020. Alternately consider going to Softplan+ and paying the upgrade as a monthly payment. That way you have all the benefits of Softplan+ and get upgrades free. For us the upgrade to Softplan+ was a no-brainer. Do the math with the upgrade cost every 2 years and the monthly payments.

After updating to new releases I ALWAYS keep one release back live incase things go bad with the new install.  for example i've been using V2020 for a few years but my V2018 is available and active for use incase the worst happens or a project i have to make tweaks and don't want to advance to next release.

2022 available soon, eager to see advancements.

Thank all for the quick response.

Philip, never thought about that. I'll keep it in consideration.

Keith, already Softplan+ and will discuss with sales.

Joseph, I typically keep at least 3 versions. It only takes me 3 to 4 times to learn from my mistakes.

If you're already a Softplan+ subscriber, then you don't have to discuss with Sales ... ALL upgrades are included in your PLUS subscription. You can just download the latest version with your Key number.
