Probably a dumb question, but 2022 is an update, not a new install, right?

NOPE...upgrades are always a full install and you'll have 2020 on your computer till you remove it

just keep in mind...once you open a project in 2022...you can't go back and open it in 2020

And, be sure to keep your 2020 folders separate from 2022 when installing. Otherwise it typically hijacks everything from the previous version.
