I'm trying to get a simple, mono pitch vault on the right side of this section.  The truss won't show the appropriate vault, even though the ceiling line shows up correctly.   I submitted a service ticket and was told that Softplan can't show a truss like this, that I need to sketch it in on my own.   I'm disappointed - thought the software was suppose to be able to show simple building components.  Any work-arounds for this?

I just tried to recreate your mono ceiling truss and had worse results, the software couldn't identify the proper heel along with the ceiling with a common vault.  I'll leave it up to the lumberyard to generate truss drawings & actual profiles.

I draw such things in SketchUp and import if needed. Often it isn't worth the effort if the drawings will be sent out to a truss company as their design will be better and different anyway.

I'd just like to show the drawings accurately, so the owner knows what they are getting, and the truss company can supply what the owner wants.  Frustrating.  Maybe Autocad wasn't so bad after all . . . .

All the programs have their pluses and minuses. Each has to figure out what they want to do and how the programs best suit their needs. I've not found one solution for every need. So, I use a few programs to get what works best for what I am doing.

My truss heels, pitches and overhangs are very accurate which intern gives me exact elevations, sections and roof plans.  I'm a 12 year Mitek user FYI.  You may hit accuracy with AutoCad however customer WOW factor will be sorely lacking along with wasted efficiency using AutoCad.  We've all been in your shoes Dan, you'll find a few problems in SP then improvise workarounds on your next project.

Welcome to SP Dan!  We're here for you.

@josephsmith - I get it, but there doesn't seem to be a work-around for this, even the tech acknowledged this.  Can't believe that I can choose the color of the electrical outlets, but a simple ceiling vault is out of the question?

Like you, I'm very specific with heel heights, fascia heights and construction materials/heights in my drawings.

I'm still not comfortable trading the accuracy that I'm used to from Autocad 2D for the 3D features of SP.

The Acad hump is a tough one to get over and many will agree, I don't believe you'll sacrifice accuracy speed or perfection with SP...if anything it'll excel all aspects of your work.  Good luck with your decision.
