How do you add exterior crown mouldings onto beams?

All moldings are generally added in the Interior drawing mode

It is also possible to add them using the profile tool in Softview (3d mode)

I'm not sure how to add images here but I often create walls to be used as beams. I then create the profile of the moldings and include it in my wall assembly.

Todd, Why would you create a wall to be used as a beam ..... Why don't you just create a beam? (Not criticising, just querying ... There's usually more than one way to do work arounds). Beams work much better than walls with the posts!

Moldings will not generate on Beams so you have to use walls instead (unless I have missed some setting)

Interesting that INTERIORS mode CROWN will not generate on a BEAM.... BUT an INTERIORS mode BULKHEAD WILL generate on a beam...

so easy enough to add a crown profile (say, "American") to the bulkhead profiles (SYSTEM OPTIONS / FINISHING OPTIONS / BULKHEAD OPTIONS...)

the attached was draw with a "bulkhead".... with "American" profile added to the bulkhead profiles... then edit the generated crown to a larger size...

also note that 2016 will allow one click ADD DRYWALL to beams...

Interesting, I can not get a bulkhead to generate to a beam.

There must be some other factor involved.

Hi Keith,

I had issues with the moulding not mitering at the corners when added to a beam profile. Also, I got in the habit of using walls for beams to show arches in them. The openings>arch  works well for this.

also as a side note, how to we post images?

You click "more reply options" at the bottom right corner where you can attach a file
