Hey everyone, I need some help & expertise. How can I create a 6'-0" barn door opening for an interior 3.5" wall. I need two separate 3'-0" door slabs for the opening and I want one running one way and one running the other. I can do a 6'-0" ext. face sliding door but thats just to one side. I have created a couple door openings in the past but nothing like this. Any help will be great.
Thanks in advance

you can get the barn door wheels that slide on the track in sketchup

or you can make them yourself within softplan

with solid cubes and horz cylinder

put the solids together and create a 3d symbol - read up in the HELP

the opening in the wall is created with an "opening / arch / flat"  edit to size

the doors are solid cubes with a old wood texture "SCALED"

note: you can use any texture you want.

Okay ... let's see what we can do.

Completely different methodology to Randy's .....

Go to - SYSTEM LIBRARY > CONFIGURE LIBRARY > OPENINGS and go to FACE SLIDING

CLICK ONE STEP

Give it a suitable name ... 72 x 80 DOUBLE BARN DOOR

CUSTOM OPENING

Type ... FACE SLIDING DOOR

and under Elevation Choose the LIBRARY and SYMBOL that you want to use for the door - You could choose a plain door and then texture it to suit later.

OK

Then under COMPONENT ... Click ADD and add the same door to the right of the one you have

EDIT INDIVIDUAL COMPONENT for the first one:

COMPONENT:

Plan - CHECK - Reverse  (Reverse shows the door on the outside of the wall, typically where barn doors are)

Dimensions:

Width - 36"

Height - 80"

Operation - L

Swing - 90

ELEVATION

Sill - None

Frame - UNCHECK - Right and Bottom

EDIT INDIVIDUAL COMPONENT for the Second one:

COMPONENT:

Plan - CHECK - Reverse

Dimensions:

Width - 36"

Height - 80"

Operation - R

Swing - 90

ELEVATION

Sill - None

Frame - UNCHECK - Left and Bottom

OK

Go to EDIT ENTIRE OPENING

Make sure Rough Width and Rough Height are what you want.

OK

It doesn't show door tracks, but you can always make a pseudo track with a solid above the door ...

Should work ... Let us know how you get on.

Actually surprised with all the blocks that softplan have and as popular as barn doors are they don't have something like what you created.

this is a nice surprise and early holiday gift.

super keith.

and you can make them open and closed as with any door.

these sliding barn doors are becoming fairly popular for interiors.

won't have to use my archaic way.

thanks keith for all you do

I set up a colonial door like this.  It shows up as a sliding door on the outside of the wall and open as it should.  I marked it to open 90 degrees, but when I go to 3d the door shows up as closed.  What did I do wrong?

You didn't do anything wrong Ron, The 90° opening is on the plan ... You need to check OPEN IN MODEL on the same tab you had open at 90° on.

If you haven't already, go to this post in "Product Suggestions" and add your comment for including Barn Doors in the SP stock drawing library.

The more comments we have there, the more likely SP will add them.

In reality, if you really want a chance, you have to send Softplan the suggestion on the Softplan site under Support>Softplan Suggestions. The "Product Suggestions" on this site is only for discussions between us. Softplan says that the developers only work with the suggestions sent to their site. I imagine that if at some point there's a huge amount of suggestions on this site about the same items that the administrators might forward it to development but by that time, it may be taken in consideration in future versions, not the upcoming one.
