Your roof shouldn't change because of the hole. The roof should refer to the top of your walls so 1rst, your roof is on the main floor plan and not the basement?

If it's on the main floor plan, then your heel height should be negative to show as it is. Did you modify that? You may need to correct your TOP to Fascia Height under Soffit/Fascia.

When in roof mode, 1rst do a cleanup. Then, make sure that the bubbles (lollipops) refer to the walls. Sometime you have to move them a bit to activate.

Thank you, I'll try all of those suggestions! In messing with it on my own, I've royal screwed up my roof. It is being drawn above the basement now instead of above the main level / garage loft. I assume this is because I did not do #3 as you suggested, and need to cut a hole in the main roof. Will try that.

  1. Extend your hole to the fascia
  2. Add False Gable
  3. Did you draw the bottom roof has one section and then cut a hole?
  4. 1rst, did you draw trusses? 2nd, in the Extraction Options, the box for Roof Framing must be checked. 3rd, while in 3D, in the Material, the box for Framing must be checked under Roof

So I just learned about Softplan and have been using it for a couple of hours total now. I'm trying to draw a garage addition on our existing home. This is bit unique in that the main floor is about 49" above the driveway, or where the top of the new slab would be. This will hopefully allow me to fit a loft area above the new garage. To that end, on the rear of the new garage I want to add a shed/hip dormer. On the front side of the garage I want to add a gable. I believe this will provide enough head room to make this a very usable space.

So, I am having issues drawing the roof correctly. After trying lots of things I eventually got the rear dormer to look correct in 3D view and was able to get the dormer's walls to do the right thing.

So my questions are (see annotated photos):

  •
  • How do I remove the extra portion of roof below the dormer's roof? And the trim?
  •
  • How do I add the gable on the front above the garage doors?
  •
  • How do I fix the soffit coming through to the interior?
  •
  • Why don't my trusses show in 3d view?
  •

Appreciate the help!
