Hey Guys,

So if I'm understanding things correctly, Lumion / Twinmotion / Artlantis / etc are only rendering engines, correct?  I would need to have a fully generated model using SP, and exported to Sketchup, in order to then import to one of these rendering programs?

What about things like landscaping, plants/shrubs, driveways/walks, etc?  Should that all be in the SP model too before exporting to Sketchup?  Or can those things be added in the rendering programs?

I've definitely got some questions if anyone with experience would be willing to chat.  My number is 814-404-3464.  Thanks in advance guys!  Very nice renderings from all above too - love them!

This is a parade home that I did back in 2017 with the rendering I did and the finished built house.

Thanks Mark & Tony. Nice stuff Tony. I also have played with TM as well as Simlab and a little with Lumion. Didn't spend much time with them as SP is what I am familiar with and don't want to spend a lot of time with something none of my clients seem to care about.

The only houses I have done in detailed 3d are the ones that I know I will never get professional finished photos of or that were not built as designed. I don't spend a lot of time on 3D as my clients want the plans ASAP and the preliminary 3Ds are all they want to speed up the construction docs.

I spend just enough time to have some fun with on slack time. The rendering above is one of those that the builder tried to cut costs and ruined the original design. Here is another one that was not built as designed.

Hi Rick,

We use Softplan for our 3D modelling, but then we send it to Lumion for the final rendering, this link show some of our exterior and interior renderings: Softplan to Lumion Renderings

Lumion is fairly expensive but very user friendly, if you only need a few renderings done a year in high quality it probably isn't worth it, we do a lot of renderings so it pays off.

Nice Rick. I have only experimented with Twin Motion. Often I find what SP can show is enough for most people. And, other than some clean up or careful selection of view, I don't spend a whole lot of time on renderings as most don't want to pay for the extra time. I know some have found a pot of gold getting finer renderings done.

It's been awhile since there has been much discussion about Softplan's rendering abilities (no outside programs) 100% softplan. I would like see the potential from other Softplan users since there has been so much discussion about Lumion, Twin Motion, Etc.

Here is one I have been playing with recently. I think there is a lot of potential ability with SP only.
