So I'm really considering to (finally) get Lumion. Especially since Softplan 2020 can export to Lumion.

Just want to make sure I'm on the right page, it's a one-time fee to purchase Lumion, correct? How much is a typicall upgrade cost, let's say from Lumion 8 to 9?

Also, open to your opinions/experiences on Lumion

I was thinking the same thing.  Does anyone know how long it takes to go from a Softplan rendering to a nice looking Lumion rendering?  Is it as simple as a couple clicks or is substantial work involved?

I actually downloaded the trial version and only took me about 1 hour to figure things out and get my first rendering. Playing around with animations now and loving it so far!

We will wait to see what rendering improvements may or may not be introduced in SP 2020.

So far the SP renderings have accomplished what our customers are looking for as far as

colors and Homeowner Association submittals etc. with minimal extra design time required.

Until we see a compensatible use to justify the additional Lumion expense we choose to

watch from the sidelines and admire the Lumion masterpieces of others.

Personally, I think Lumion is over the top for what we do. Our clients need to see the spaces. Unless it's for marketing purposes then I don't see the need to go to that much detail. Lets face it, our clients used to be happy with just hand drawn 2D plans and elevations.

I agree with Keith.  My clients get to see Softplans output during the design process.  Most of them are very impressed with that level of detail.  Once I move into some marketing of my plans I then put them into Lumion for a better presentation.  Lumion is usually around a 1k upgrade between versions.

Lumion is a game changer imo, if you really want to get 3D renders to a high level with Softplan.

Same as Keith and Brad, my clients are happy with the current Softplan visual output.  No matter how much I love the speed and output of Lumion i'm sorry to say ultimately it adds unneeded cost and time to each project for my work.  I'll have to wait till coupon day or something.

I've had Lumion V7,8, and 9.  I wouldn't waste the money unless you are doing it for stock plan sales like me.  Softplans renderings are plenty for the home owner that just wants an idea of how things will look.  When selling plans online...you either need ultra high end renderings or actual photographs.

Thanks for the feedback!

Our customers are happy with what Softplan provides, but want to step up our renderings for new developments and pre-selling spec homes

Yes, it is great for spec homes. If you think you can do a good enough job, you can defiinatelyy charge the client or the realtor for the work you put in as well.

This is plenty for our customers at this point with Softplan rendering. Looking forward to seeing some Lumion examples.

Hello everyone,

I have been using Softplan 2018 with Lumion for about a year now and have gotten pretty good results as you can see https://youtu.be/0fShaT4QkRM

the problem I have is continuously having to re-export and reload models into Lumion every time I make a change in Softplan. I know Revit and SketchUP have 'real-time' model updates, meaning as you update in the software it is simultaneously updating in Lumion. I do not see where Softplan has this feature yet, and I see the export options for 3D have not changed past .dwg .dxf .3ds & .pov. Until we get a realtime plug-in into Softplan, its hard to see how this is a "new feature".

Thanks Heath! you can download video clips and "paint" them as textures on the tv screens. I downloaded this one off YouTube from our company's page. I will post some more examples on here soon. I'm currently waiting on a 6 hour clip to render in Lumion ha!
