I have trying for years to untangle this....  When drawing porch slabs I like to extend porch beyond Beams above.  Unless you extend about 7" beyond it will always snap back to beam above.  I like to extend 5.5".  See picture ...

Thanks in advance

Have you unchecked clean up? I assume so, but always good to ask. Have you tried checking anchor? Have you tried putting the slab on it's own layer and locking it? One of my big frustrations is how unchecking clean up and checking anchor does not always work.

Uncheck clean-up and adjust the EDGES not the LOLLIPOPS.

Yep I tried all that.  Seems like we need a button for that.

Adjust the control circle off to the side so it doesn't try to move back to the beam.

Click on the edge instead of the reference circle to adjust the edge of the slab.

Have you tried this yet?

Define a porch stem-wall with an exterior, load-bearing airspace on the exterior side that the airspace is the thickness of slab overhang desired.  Next, add a structural slab to the area of the porch and uncheck "footings" for the perimeter of the structural slab.  Adjust the reference circles to the outside of your stemwall and you should end up with something like this:
