Is there a way to set the default for deck rails that eliminates the grabrails?

I don't think so, but I wish there was.  Personally I think every object should have controls in system options.  For instance....I have to remember to turn on ridge caps on every single project when I save elevations.  I like the way it looks and show hatching to make it look like actual ridge caps on my elevations.  That absolutely should be able to be turned on permanently at the system level.  And why can you not control whether cabinets extract in the model in the common tab?  Another one of my pet peeves

  1. Edit a railing and get it all set up the way you want it.
  2. Select Add Definition.
  3. Select the library you want to save it to and give it a name.
  4. When adding the railing to the deck select the saved railing definition.

You can also set a saved definition as the default railing. In Drawing Options select Stair Options and set up your default railings.

To change an existing railing to a different railing definition just edit the railing and select the desired definition name.

It's one step once you get your railing definitions set the way you want them. Just like all the other definitions for walls, stairs, roofs, floors, etc. Set up at the system level, project level, or drawing level. Use master drawings if needed for certain things to all be set and ready to use.
