I am looking to add gable accents beyond vents such as corbels, millwork, gable pediments, etc. Is there way to place these sort of details into our 3-D models?

Yes, but you will have to be a little more specific in your requirements.

 

If you edit the wall, you can add a frieze board directly to the wall. The corbels and millwork etc, would be added as a symbol on the plan, and height adjusted accordingly. You can add pretty much anything you can conceive to the 3D models, although in a lot of cases, you will have to design the relevant elements yourself.

What's the best way to draw a gable pediment?

as mentioned, their are many types of pediments and of course designs.

 

your probably looking for something custom.

 

that you might have to create from shapes that you draw and than

turn that into a "solid polygon" and than open it in softview and

export it.

than a few more steps to make it into a softplan 3d model so

it'll stands up tall to place on the gable.

 

you can add 3d symbols to the solid polygons you add

plus so many stock items in softplan.

 

can you show us an image of what your after or something

that's close to it.

Somewhat on a side note, is there anyone that creates these 3D images and wants to sell their stock or create custom ones? Claude Poirer(sp) did this for me a while ago but no longer can find him.  If interested send me a private message.  Thanks.

 

Also be willing to get mentored in how to do it (teach a man to fish...  )

That did Keith, thank you,  but I am looking into getting more detailed like corbals, brackets, etc.  More with creating and marrying through sketch-up and Softplan.  Most customers have custom brackets that I sketch but I don't have anything to show them in 3D.  I usually say "something like this".  but woudl also like to do exterior lights and such when they see or buy something they like

Softplan's downside is that 3D objects are not much more than extruded 2D shapes - although these work fine in most cases - getting true 3D can be complex. If you can use Sketchup, then you can create a more artistic 3D representation, but then once you get into complex shapes, that is normally above the capabilities of an entry level Sketchup user, and requires real talent - which I don't have.
