Hello all,

 

I would like to know if there is a way to display, on elevation drawings, a light shading to define where the glass in the elevation opening is.  I would like to accomplish this without having to explode the elevation opening and using a paint to fill the glass areas.  I have seen pen settings for opening bead, frame, grille, leaf, and sash.  Is there a pen setting for glass in openings?

You don't have to explode the opening to paint the glass, just add a light gray paint to that area, the same way you would paint anything on the elevation, so the windows remain as windows. It can however, get messy where you have the opening hinge lines shown, as it may not completely paint the defined shape. Sometimes the corners of triangles don't completely paint.

I was hoping there was a setting in system options to automatically fill the glass area.

I use a different pen setting for the grilles, to make the lines lighter.  I was hoping there would be something similar for the glass.

Paint works, but when moving or modifying elevation openings, the paint would not move or resize with it without a block move and a regenerate.

 

Wishful thinking I guess.  I just like the look of hand drawings when the windows are shaded in.

So do I, that's one of the reasons that I use live elevations instead of drawn elevations.

Is "live elevation" available in 2014?

The only option I see is to generate an elevation, save it as a drawing or image file, then insert into multi drawing or plan set.

Yes, the generated elevations are "live" in that when you edit the plan, the elevation is automatically updated.

 

My elevations are a little different from probably everyone else. I generate the elevation, save as a Softplan drawing, change all the lines, shapes etc. to a layer set to NOT print, add notes and heights etc. and then overlay the generated elevation over the top in the plan set. I don't "draw" any elevations. Once the plan set has been created, editing elevations is just a matter of regenerating. You only need to edit it, if a note is over something that was moved.
