Has anyone seen or done the sliding doors that form a corner (Western Windows)? Trying to figure out how to create those in Softplan but I am not sure what I can do to get rid of the wall at the corner. To throw the extra wrench in it, all the houses have a Soft list material take-off with it so I can't just fudge it to look correct in 3D.

You could make a matching wall out of NONE materials, that doesn't extract in 3D - that way there won't be any materials to take off. Make the wall join to the standard wall exactly at the end of the patio doors, and use two patio doors, one on each face. So a 6' or whatever patio door, in a 6ft wall. Also make the door the same height as the wall. That way, there really are no wall materials.
You may have to make the doors frameless by creating a specific CUSTOM patio door that has a VERY NARROW frame and edit it's material in the material editor to be NOT visible/NOT displayed.
Just throwing idea's out here.

I didn't think about creating a symbol. I'm not the best at creating symbols yet. I was trying to do it with openings. I tried manipulating a corner window but it did not work correctly.
The doors are very close to face sliding doors but in stead of being face sliding they slide up next to themselvse and go in a pocked in the wall. Then with no jamb on the one side they open up the entire outside.

Do you have manufacturers details. If you know exactly what it is going to look like and the size, I'll try and do a quick design for you ... how soon do you need it? because I'm really good at procrastinating these days!

Hopefully this comes out. The size that I am using are 12'x8' with the pocket (otherwise I could use the face sliding). It is the corner thing that is messing me up. I am hoping to get something to show the builder by Monday.

Sorry Tom, Just to confirm size when you say 12' x 8' with pocket is that overall 12' including the pocket or 12' door (4 x 3' doors) plus the depth of the pocket.

That looks pretty spot on. Did you create an opening or is that a symbol?

At the moment it's just a 3D model, I'll create it as a symbol. That way you just create the ends of the wall as they will be created with the pockets, and I'll send you the relevant symbols. That way you can use OPEN, PARTLY OPEN or CLOSED symbols and they will show the relevant model in the 3D.

Not really sure how these will transfer between machines. but the enclosed ZIP file has three Softplan symbols and the relevant three linked 3D dwg files. put the dwg files in the C:\SoftPlan\3D\3D Symbols directory ... probably under a subdirectory called Western Windows will work. Put the Softplan symbols wherever you want, and then edit them to link to each of the relevant dwg files. Each window has four distinct textures, that you can edit to whatever suits you. There's the Window Frame on layer "Black", The Pocket on layer "White", the Glass on Layer "Glass", and the Base Track on Layer "Steel", (I'm aware it will probably be black, but needed to give the ability to switch finishes if required) although you can edit them to whatever textures suit you.
Just put them in the drawing as you would any other symbol, and they should work fine. You should be able to show them open, partially open or closed, just by switching the symbols. They seem to work fine for me, but there again, I know what I did with them ...
I haven't worked on the walls and know they will include a pocket, but that wasn't important for this exercise. This is how it works for me ...
Let me know how you get on.
For anyone who is interested, although there are DWG files included here, ALL of this was created wholly within Softplan. Softplan's 3D model was saved as a DWG file, withiin the 3D window.

Keith,
Any chance you still have that zip floating around? I really like what you did with the doors - I'm probably more more interested in the process of it and would love to see the results.
Thank you ,

Grant,
Sorry it took me so long, I had a lot of trouble finding them.
Hope they work for you.
