SP2014

in a renovation project, i had to set some false dormers as usual on top

of the outside wall, but the lower part of the gable roof has a flat pitch

about 4 / 12 and to the ridge the roof changes to 10 / 12

this means the dormer has to sit with it outside triangle walls

halve on the flat roof and halve on the steeper part

I could not figure out to get it working in SP2014,

it shows up just with a distance to the steeper roof

thanks in advance for helping me

The new dormer will go on the left side in that picture?  I would think you have a couple options.  To look correct on elevations and exterior 3D, you can add the false dormer then edit the side walls and uncheck "fit bottom to roof"  That should make the wall flat at the bottom and go through both roofs but it will look strange in 3D if you go inside the house.  The other option would be to keep "fit bottom to roof" and "rake bottom" checked and go into the "positions" button and adjust things manually.  That can be a real pain unless you're really good at math!  I usually just trial and error with that until I get it to look right.

the dormer will start on the red marker (outside bearing wall)

and end up on the green marker

thanks

I'm not sure why that's a problem Stefan. How did you create the main roof. Is it two roofs or one roof with two pitches?

thank you everybody

i did create at first 2 diff. pitches, that was wrong

later the day i figured out that we can select double hip !

that brought we one step ahead

but at the end of the day, the walls beside the dormers

won't fit to the dormer roof caused by "draw/hole/Auto Hole"

i have removed "Auto Hole" this works fine for the gable dormer

but not for the shed dormer, see picture

you might have to adjust your roof hole a bit as well as stretch the wall a bit.  Another way that I have done it is by creating the walls on a second floor and stacking.
