How do I extend an overhang, in plane with the roof, to create a covering over a door?

I think you mean just extend the roof overhang at the door, otherwise rest of overhang unchanged...
One way to do this is to add a small bit of another roof.. perhaps add a beam to carry the new eave, and set the new lollipop to this. but you'll need to turn off the visibility of the beam as you don't want to see it.. it's just there to hold the bit of roof...
Another way to do this is to extend out the entire roof plane, and then cut "holes" out of the roof where it needs the shorter overhang. be sure to account for appropriate heel height and such... the edges of the holes can be set to have fascia / gutter..
