Good Afternoon,

 

I have been working on this building for a while, and thanks to all of your assistance it is pretty close to finished. 

 

Is there some way to make this look like part of a street scape without creating a series of buildings?

 

If not, can I cut down on all the extra grass and sky?

If you have Photoshop you should be able to drop it into a suitable image. The other option is to find an image you can save as a Softplan background. then you need to play around with the camera location and field of view settings to achieve the illusion that you are looking for. You will have to turn off the horizon and create a site plan first.

 

You can probably find what you are looking for on Google Maps. Here is a sample of a commercial lot near my office from Google Maps. I dropped in a Softplan model. Its a rough, 10 minute job but you get the idea

One last question. What is the best way to show a client alternate finishes?  He would like to see it with white brick and some other variations.  Right now I am creating alternate projects.  I don't think I can save different surfaces as building options.  Any recommendations?

While in 3D, edit the 3D to have your 1rst finishes options. Then, still in 3D, select File>Material File>Save and give it a name. Change your finishes to create option 2 and go thru the same process to save under another name. After that, to go from one option to the other, just do File>Material File>Load and select the option.

 

Look at the same principle to save Views.

In the 3D go to:

 

FILE > MATERIAL FILE > SAVE and then edit your finishes as necessary then RESAVE the render options with a new name, as many times as you want. You can then reload the saved options any time you want to regenerate the project.

Quicker way to switch from one material file to another is by clicking on the tab of the bar identified as "Material File: Project". The name of the material file that you choose will appear in that area also.

it seem like neither the material file save or the view file save keeps the background image and horizon settings.  do I need to recreate those each time?  My street view background only works from this camera angle...

Not sure what you mean by each time. Unless you change the materials or render options (or rotate the view file), the view file should stay the same.

 

One tip though. Once you save the view file, EXIT the 3D, and open a new 3D to rotate. The view file is movable the same as any other 3D file, so if you rotate the view whilst in a specific view file it will stay rotated unless you reload it ... and it's easy to re-save it in a new location.

I created the rendering and placed it on the street view, and it looks great, so I save it as an image.  I also want to present some other angles of the building to the client, so I change the background picture and rotate to the new view, and save an image file.  Repeat as needed.  Now I make a few small tweaks to the landscaping.  What should I have done to save the first view/background/angle/camera position so I do not need to readjust and align everything again?  I hope that makes sense...

You should be saving a VIEW file, not an image file. This will always return to the saved view. It doesn't save the background, as far as I can tell, it's just the camera location.

 

However as I said above, once you save the view file DON'T rotate that view EVER, unless you make sure you don't save it.
