One of my clients was watching me make adjustments to their plan and mentioned that I must have been using SoftPlan for a long time. I thought about it for a minute and it was 30 yrs this past spring that I started on SoftPlan.

I started with version 5.5.2.5 which was probably (as far as I can remember) 1993 ... so about 24 years.

bought my first computer and softplan v10 (1st windows version) in 1998.
softplan is the only cadd software i've ever tried or have used.
tom roman convinced me to not waste my time on any of the other cadd programs.
he tested most of the top programs over a 2 years period since he was going
out on his own.
he was the manager of a medium sized architectural firms cadd department
which used a leading cadd program.
softplan was my first attempt at cadd.
was on drafting table for a long time. 5 years architectural college (1968-1973) plus
25 years after that.

When I retired two and 1/2 years ago, I promised myself I would do two things - learn to use a cad program, and learn to play the piano.
I drew on a board since 1968, and have been a working musician (drummer) all my life.
So now I think I'm just getting the hang of Softplan (with fits and starts).
The piano may have to wait for my "post-retirement" years.

I bought my first version in 1988. Version 4.8 or something close. DOS Version back then. Around 29 years. I was building houses and traded the drafting table for a Compaq 286 then upgraded to 386. The 386 had a 100 mb hard drive. Only recently started doing plans for other people.

Feel like a rookie since I have used it only since 2004. :-)

I used version 7 and that would have been 1994-95. I stopped doing design work for a few years and wound up with AutoCAD when I started again. Two years ago I made the switch back to Softplan.

This is probably the most interesting topic here in a while! It seems like most everyone is so busy again that there isn't much going on for discussions. I'm still a rookie compared to most of you. I started in V13 LITE in 2006. A month or so later was the seminar in Vegas put on by Randy and Tom and a few others who I forget their names. I left after the second day because everything was either over my head or wasn't available in LITE so I felt I was wasting my time. I would love for someone to put another seminar like that together. I'm sure there are plenty of things that I would learn that I'd never thought of before.
