Okay, I'll admit that dimensions are not quite as bad as I first thought.  But here's my current problem.  How do you create a dimension that stretches past dimensionable objects?  An example would be to locate the floor plug in the middle of the den needs dimensions from the outside edge of the slab.  How do you get dimension lines past intervening walls, cabinets etc?

Pull the extensions beyond the objects that interfere, dimension and move the dimension back to where you want it.

The dimension point command will work between extensions (and will stay perpendicular with the extension unless you select the centre or end of the extension) and (as the name implies) points. Unlike standard dimensions it will only dimension from and to the selected points, and ignores everything else.

The dimension point ALSO works between OBJECTS (unlike it's name implies) ... If you choose a side, the dimension point will dimension to other objects that are parallel to it, as long as they are inside it's length. If you choose either the centre or the end, then you lose the parallel ability.
