I sell plans online and frequently sell the Softplan DWG CAD files to individuals who wish to modifiy the plans.

Lately there have been more complaints that the exported DWG files are unable to be worked with.

Are others seeing this also?

How do you handle the export process to other parties?

What is your process for exporting the DWG files and which version SoftPlan are you using?

Softplan 2018

Process is as follows:

Open file that is to be exported.

Click EXPORT / DWG FILE / Enter file name / SAVE AS FILE TYPE { I usually select DWG 2013 } /SAVE

Does selecting a different file type (R14, 2000, 2007 or 2010, etc.) make any difference?

Brad,
If you are only exporting single files (not plan sets) to give to someone, I have found an easier and quicker method that works for me.

I open up a drawing that I want to export and use multi drawing to put all the files that I want to export into that one drawing. I then export that multi drawing in the manner you describe. You don't have to worry about positioning the drawings when assembling the multi drawing. Just let them come into the multi drawing all stacked on top of one another. They will stack in the exported dwg file. The other thing I do is export to 2010 or lower. This will offer more compatibility with other programs.

The other thing you should check is your export options in system options. I typically have mine set to "group layers"

Hope that helps some.

I dont do it very often but I save them back to R14 when I do.  It would be best to get a DWG viewer or similar AutoCad type program to open and quality check

I always export to v2000   I still have engineers and surveyors that I work with that have never upgraded from 2000.  Also..if you are using multi drawings the export comes out strange on the other end no matter what you do.  I always forget which way this works but if the other user says the drawing is "all over the place" have them switch from model space to paper space...or vice versa and it will look just fine.  I've had to educate a lot of engineers on this over the years when they first start working with me

Thanks, everyone, for your input.

I've been testing what version of DWG to export with. It seems the older the version, the better the results.

Another issue is the Model space vs paper space or layout. I need to explain to some what to view it in at their end.

They're main complaint is that dimensions aren't coordinated with the walls anymore and they need to work a little harder than anticipated to edit the plan.

I use FastCAD, that can import .dwg or .dxf files.  An associate is using Softplan.

The exported .dwg files he sends me have all been altered so all entities become

blocks (called Symbols in FCAD).  When I explode these blocks they are not the

entities in the original drawing.  For example dimension convert to lines and text.

And not even lines with arrow heads.

Does anybody know how to rectify this situation so I can receive some workable

drawings?  Thanks.

I receive drawings from an associate who uses Softplan.

In these files, all entities have been converted into blocks.

When I explode the blocks, they become useless entities.

Dimensions become lines and text. Polygons are lines and

arcs, etc.  What can be done to rectify this situation?  Thanks.
