I'm embarrassed to even ask this but........

I can't find dimension rad. or dia. only arc in SP help.

How do you dimension the radius and diameter of a circle (shape not wall) (a 2d circle).

Turn Snap on and use dimension point.  You should see the center snap point appear as you hover near it.

Only works from center to quadrant, I need it from center to about 10 o'clock.

It won't snap to perpendicular or nearest.

Rotate only work spins the circle, not the dimension.

This sure seems like basic drafting requirements.

Now what?

For 10 o'clock block rotate the circle 30° and then snap to quadrant.

Yes, I know ... there's got to be a better way.

Alternately, you could draw a line across the circle edge where you want to dimension to and then dimension centre to intersect and then delete the line.

Use dimension arc instead of dimension point.  Interestingly enough, you can only dimension the radius for arcs, not circles.  I couldn't find anything that worked to dimension the radius of a circle.

I had a look at this again, and if you delete the line, it also deletes the dimension.

My best solutions is (as Tim mentions above) is DIMENSION ARC, which works exactly as you want. If you get a circle, BLOCK CUT a section out of it (any section, any size) and then edit it - START ANGLE = 0 and SWEEP = 359.99, then it is an arc, but to all intents is a full circle. DIMENSION ARC can then dimension exactly to any point of the perimeter, just by clicking on the perimeter where you want the radius.

To use the arc without eliminating the circle, do this.  Copy your circle a known distance away and clear of your circle.  Block cut so you have a segment of the arc in the position you want it for dimensioning.  Block move the arc back over the circle the same distance you copied your circle.  Now you can dimension the arc that will be directly over you circle.

You can move the line to a non visible layer and the dimension will remain.

I had a look at this again, and if you delete the line, it also deletes the dimension.

When the computer is ten times more difficult than old school hand drafting its time to reinvent the wheel.

Tom - I think this discussion shows that we could use either a new tool to dimension circles or we need to have the arc dimension tool enhanced to handle circles.  I put in a suggestion to this idea - hopefully we'll see something in a patch.

Yes, I'm aware of that, but it's really more bother than the problem warrants isn't it!

Yes it is.  Another case of "who would ever want to do that" programming.
