When creating 2D elevations, it would be nice to have a brick hatch pattern in paint, that shows a mortar joint...
For a more realistic look. Anyone have a work around for this?

You would need to create a custom paint for this. If you are looking for accuracy then you need the actual brick size. Since there are many brick sizes, you may need to create a number of different paint patterns or you could create one base on your most common brick size used in your area.

You really only need the one pattern. Once you have the pattern you like you can scale it to meet the needs of different brick sizes.

Martin, it all depends on what you are after. If you adjust your pattern, then mortar joint size changes also. If you are only after the look, then yes adjusting the pattern size works. I just use the standard pattern that SP supplies and I have never had anyone complaint about it.

You can take the existing pattern and do a copy, paste and clean up to get offset lines for mortar. Then save as a new pattern. You'll find most paint patterns are very small lines, but you might be able to get the look you want as easily with a fresh start if copying an existing pattern doesn't work. Also, you could stretch (adjust size) the existing single line pattern for each brick size you want including the size of the mortar joint, then duplicate and offset for the width of the mortar. It may help to set up some long guide lines to assist with moving things, and maybe group each set of lines initially.

I've created a number of custom patterns, and I find the easiest way is to draw a repeating pattern, and then draw the pattern template over it, rather than try and draw within the pattern template.

I created my own, it was pretty easy... I'm not sure how I like it though. It does look more realistic but it also makes the elevations look
a little, busy.
So I'm kinda on the fence.
Jon, I have some custom Brick Pattern's. I don't know which one's came with SoftPlan, some of them I downloaded from the old Splash forum years ago. If you see one that you like I'll be happy to send it to you.

Richard sent me his. Update on it, after adjusting pen style settings, I've got it all looking pretty good now. Just need to lighten up the rowlock pattern
a little bit.
Jon, I use a light gray for the paint.
