3D scan / point cloud technology is making HUGE steps recently..

now able to automatically convert to colored vector models..

check out the attached image...

the tools of our profession continue to change at an alarming rate...

here is the full article, if interested: http://www.aecmag.co...e-now-available

tom,

great look !

do they have a book that will help us decipher what the article is talking about ?

and explains in simple non-technical language how we who use softplan

along with a paint / graphics program such as photoshop elements, when needed, can apply the technique ?

Randy.. the image is of a model of an existing building... the model was created without taking a single measurement, and without "drawing" anything what-so-ever...

laser scanning devices were located around the building... the laser scan data was used to create "point cloud"... the point cloud was used to create vector computer model, including the colors...

so this technology will be perfect for remodel projects !!

I don't think it changes my business, or yours, anytime soon, but it's amazing the rate of progress...

https://www.google.c...q=point clouds

A point cloud is a set of data points in some coordinate system.

In a three-dimensional coordinate system, these points are usually defined by X, Y, and Z coordinates,

and often are intended to represent the external surface of an object.

Point clouds may be created by 3D scanners.
