Good morning.

I guess my question is, does SoftPlan, with plus use the internet when in use?

It seems that commands take a bit longer to register since there is another computer

being in use at the same time that is on line. (Covid)

The internet is used at the being when you start SoftPlan, or need to download a project, and at the end when the project is uploaded. If there's an update or new content to download it's used then as well but for the most part at the beginning and end of the SoftPlan session, throughout the daily process, not so much.

I was experiencing some speed issues and lags. I updated my video driver and that seems to have resolved the issue.

Hi Don.

I apologize for the delay in responding. I did update video driver, (said it was up to date). This thought has lingered for quite awhile so that's why I asked.

As much as I don't want to, looks like I'm going to need a new build.

Thanks again.

Doug

No worries Doug, it's not like I can leave the house anyways, everything is closed here.

Instead of a new computer look into a Solid State Drive. I found an amazing difference after I swapped out my old SATA drive and put in an SSD.

I have just been experiencing the same thing. Got a new computer at home so I can do more work at night. New computer is bigger and better in every way then my work computer. But their does seem to be some annoying lag when doing certain things like picking a tool from the tool bar. It has a G-Force card and I have tried the latest "Game Ready" and "Studio" drivers and they both seem the same.

Specs:

Processor Intel® Core™ i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz, 3600 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 32.0 GB
Adapter Type GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER
SSD Drive

Please accept my apologizes for not responding in a timely manor and thanks for responding.

My tech support, kids, came up with an idea. I use wireless mouse and keyboard. They mentioned

that it could possibly be a delay of the command. I do replace the batteries fairly often but the keyboard and mouse

are not the most expensive. Not sure if that is the issue. Tower is behind me but not more than 5'-0" away. It would take a fairly long

extension to attach directly. Any thoughts?

I have the exact same keyboard and mouse at home and work. So I don't think that can be the issue.

One place I see this problem every time at home is when you have a bunch of items on top of each other, you right click on them to pick which one you want to edit. At work that list come up instantly, at home their is a delay before it pops up.

I had to get a USB extension cord so my receiver is just under my monitors, my computer was under the desk but was still laggy.

have good Logitech wireless KB and mouse.

Make sure you do not have a lot of files opened.  A list of open files is located on the right side of the screen.  Close all the files and let SP reopen again when needed.  Just a thought as it clears up a slow SP when I have a lot of files opened.

Have never had a problem with a lot of files being open at work. But I did try that at home and it made no difference.

I have the same issue.  It used to be worse, but after a long SP tech exchange we ended up changing my small form SP key for a normal sized one and that helped.  I do still have some lag, but not as bad as before.

My computer is pretty powerful, especially for a laptop.  When working with SP tech, my specs were better than theirs.  The program & files are installed on my SSD.  No other programs I use have this issue.  I use Twin Motion extensively and it powers through effortlessly.

An example, I just edited a stove and it took 9 seconds for the edit window to open after I clicked on it.  I plan to start another ticket, but now isn't the time.  I'm too busy.

The only lag that I have seen with commands is when adding in either symbols or openings that might have a lot of files that are being looked at. As mentioned earlier SoftPlan connects to the internet in the beginning for the + content and it can become cumbersome inside the symbols and openings with the amount of information that is in there. But I really don't experience much else.

With relationship to the wireless keyboard and mouse. I would have issues with lag on a computer but not just in SoftPlan. Pretty much it was everywhere in the Windows OS. Then that was an issue with some interference from the computer to the wireless receiver. I ended up grabbing an old USB extension from my previous wireless keyboard and mouse and spaced the receiver in a better location and the reception was better and the lag went away. Just in case people do see that happen.

Well I am glad to say that mine is not that bad for delay, just enough to be annoying. If not for that fact that I am used to my work computer and how it responds I probably would not notice. At work I use a network key and at home I have one of the small keys. I can't see how that would make a difference, I thought it only really looked for the key when opening the program or a drawing.

Just wanted to say that I am on version 2020. When I searched for similar problems I didn't realize this was in the 2018 forum.

I have had the same issues on my 2020. Editing openings, stairs, symbols. is very slow hesitating several seconds with the "spinner" going. Made a ticket, Tech worked with me even doing remote access. Tried some things said it was my end. Thought it was my Connexion mouse, turns out it wasn't. I have every driver up to date. unloaded/reloaded programs still no fix. SoftPlan is the only program that stalls. Everything else screams on my high end computer. Guess just live with it for now.

It is typically using the editing command.

Can't say that that my desk top is top end.

Playing with upgrading, but have been advised to build one verses off the shelf.

I can confirm that it is not a mouse issue. My receiver is on my monitor so inches away from the mouse. It is frustrating, maybe this should be restarted in the 2020 forum, or move it if possible.

Looks my issue is solved. I contacted Tech support and they told me to remove the Sentinel Key from programs, which I did not even have in my programs list, this is a brand new install. Then they had me install the Soft Plan Micro Key Driver. Been using it for two nights now and all seems to be working like normal, glad it was an easy fix.

Doug Stephenson I have been building my own for the last 3 or 4 computers.  Many advantages.  Get exactly what you want with the component brands you want.  A manufacturer may have components made by well known manufacturers but they are built to the PC maker's specs.  Sometimes when they fail, over the shelf replacements don't work but that part may be better now.  Since I buy a Microsoft Windows install I have no other programs that come with a PC maker - that part really drives me crazy.  I have also found compatiability between components to be very good.  I usually set a price limit and get the best I can in that price limit.  I do not buy the latest components as they are too expensive (I am a poor boy).  If they have been out for 6 months or more their prices are much more attractive than the latest and greatest.  Just my 2 cents worth.  Also I have had very few components fail over the years.  I can only recall power supply failures.
