Did you know that you can create your own profiles within SoftPlan? This video covers how to create a new board and batten profile library item and assign it through the Wall Definition. This, in turn, can then be viewed in Elevation as well as 3D.

As always, Softplan is showing US a great feature....Around here the "Stucco Fiber" board is common...and the Joints are 4' spaced joints are covered width 1x6 rough cedar battens....anyone know where there is a texture or way to develop this ?

thanks in advance

Buddy

Sure ... Make the boards and the battens two separate sections of the wall definition that way they can have two different materials. The same way they are in the pole barn wall definition.

Nope....that does not work....no texture that includes the 1x6 cedar battens...I did do as the latest SP vid suggested, but did not change the 3d even in full texture mode ....unless I am doing something wrong...which is usually the case

I wasn't talking about a texture ... I was talking about creating the wall with 2 different materials. You can add any plain texture you want to each material separately. Once the wall is created with profiles, You cannot use textures that imply profiles like a horizontal texture or a board and batten texture you need to apply textures that imply a single plane to each of the components separately.

Is this what you wanted? I edited the board & batten profile and made it 48" with a 5½" batten.

Yep, I understand the texture issue, the problem is to have a 1x6 vertical applied at 4ft C-C on a wall via a wall defination....I can draw each one separately, but the results are very time consuming.....Thanks for your help, still looking into actually how the PROFILE feature works....according to SP's latest instructional vid, should be an easy thing, but so far I have not accomplished that yet.

In your board & batten wall definition make sure you have vertical profile checked.

Yep, I got that the requirement to check "to Vertical" from watching the SP vid, thanks....will gives this a try....but one issue remains.....how to indicate different materials in three dim views....I usuaally thansfere a sketchup file into Twinmotion and develop my 3d images etc there....I would imagin a softlist formula could be developed for both the Stucco sheeting and the 1x6 cedar battens...well, that what Saturdays are for....experimenting with SP....

Thanks again

What I was talking about Harlon, was exactly what Richard did, but instead of making the profile with both materials, using a single material for each. Or use the stucco-fiber where you would normally do sheathing, and then add the boards as a single profile so that you could colour them separately.

I was having trouble with spacing, so I did two profiles one with the Board on the end and one with it in the centre, but the key is to make a profile with a single line to measure it's extent.

That way they can be coloured separately as I was describing in the earlier post.

You can also use 1x2 shadow board at 8" o.c. and then use any color to board and wall

Thanks Ben.

I hadn't picked up on the profile spacing. Not even sure how long we've been able to do that. I've always created large profiles like that by defining the width within the profile.

Learnt something new today thank you.

Ben I like your Board & Batten wall definition but I'm not sure how we can get the gable material to align.  Unless we extend wall to roof but that is not ideal.

Brent,

Make sure the gable end and the wall definition are using the exact same siding. If so and it still does not want to line up, try using a siding only wall on the the gable end with the exact same siding as the wall definition and make sure the ends of the walls line up perfectly. Unfortunately, we do not have control over the pattern start point, or it would be so much easier. If those options don't work, fitting to roof is about the only other option, but it will not work well either with the corner of the garage bump clipping the right side of your gable. It may have to be two walls split at that transition, and set on top of the lower walls (siding only).
