I've been trying to finish my roof design for this house and my engineer has asked me to distinguish beams from walls in my design.  I have attached two drawings to help show what I'm seeing.  I zoomed in a little to make it more clear in the second attachment.  There seems to be no rhyme or reason why certain things are designated a certain color.  I'm sure that's not the case, but after searching for days I have come up empty on how to change colors and designate between beams and walls in roof mode.

This roof is a "Multiple Floor Roof" and the beam and wall are both on the first floor stack.

Thanks in advance!

Mike

Can't ... all that the roof plan colours are showing area loadbearing elements. That's all Softplan needs to know.

The colours refer to different heights, so all the same colours are all the same height. As far as I can see the colours are randomly generated. I've even seen white ones on a white background which gets very confusing.

Send him a standard floor plan so he can see which are which.

It seems that a lot of engineers want everything done for them, so they can just stamp and invoice ... My rant for the day.

To her point. It's a Mission Bungalow and the second story walls sit on beams. A typical house wouldn't be bad to look at but, the second story walls don't sit on the first story walls.  the roof plan hurts your eyes to look at and most importantly the framers are going to be completely confused as well as my county officials.  I would be good just turning off everything and drawing paint boxes where needed.  The upstairs walls are 2x4 sitting on 10" steel, so you see the green from the beam below.

The Roof 2 attachment has a Green line running vertical that has both a supporting wall and beam combined.

I have attached some combined drawings to show the problem better.

Thanks,

Mike

I resolved the issue of not being able to distinguish beams from walls in roof mode by printing the roof drawing and un-checking "Print Screen Color". I imported that .jpg file into a new blank drawing where I drew the walls I wanted in red.

If there were a way to check a box in "Drawing Options" to turn the support wall colors off this would have been much easier.

Thanks,

Mike

Glad you found a solution. You can also use layers and building options with pens and visibilities shown in custom drawing modes if they don’t work the way you want them to in roof mode. I also often use an overlay mode I set up and save as a master drawing so if I want to show walls and other elements of another drawing they can be set in the same plan set page as other drawings and aligned where needed. Lots of ways to work with things, just have to decide what works best for you and your clients.
