Would anyone like to share their method for puting a hip return on just one side of a gable? I need it on only one side of the large porch gable. I can build it with solids but if there's an easier way I'm all ears. Thanks

I've never tried this, but could you draw them like normal and then use a "trace hole" to get rid of the one you don't want?

hey !  toms post wastn't there when i posted.

what the heck,  he taught me when i was just starting

about 17 years ago so i guess he deserves to be first.

put a couple beams inside of the corner you want the hip return

and trace a roof and you'll have the hip return

on one side only.

this is what it'll look like with same settings as the main roof.

The problem with the hole is it will also destroy the roof above it too, as they are both part of the same item.

I did this one recently. As you can see there are two hip returns ... The one one the main roof is 161.5" long, but because of the second gable, it doesn't show. Surprised the heck out of me. If you don't wan't it because of another gable, it may be that it won't show anyway.
