Hey guys,

I have gone through the tutorial on creating arched windows in other post here and it was phenomenal.

I was able to get my arched windows like I want. Now I need to add shutters to my windows to match Board and Batten rustic type. When I add them to the window though they are square toped. SO the question is how do I create shutters to match my windows. I am a relative newbie from auto cad and these little things end up taking more time to figure out than the actual drawing process. I am sure this topic hs been discussed but I have yet to find anything. Makes me think its something easy that I am missing. Anyways, thanks in advance for the help.

You can create shutters and load them as symbols. Best to dissect an existing to see how it has been done if you've never created one. And, if you have access to SketchUp, checking the 3D warehouse for something that is close to what you want is always good. Otherwise you can create the symbol with solid shapes, load it to SoftView as a model, export the 3D dwg and save it to the correct symbol folder, then create the shutter from that. A bit of work for sure, but once you get into it, not bad.

Hey Mark. I see where you can open the 3D dwg files and modify them. Is that one of the options you are referring to? Or is it best to create and save as. I haven't used SoftView yet, is that something in the main SP interface?

Thanks

Shane,

Best to make a copy of the shutter if you want to modify the existing DWG of a shutter.  SoftView (SV) is the 3D portion of SoftPlan. It was their name for it in the past and I have always called it that, which I guess is confusing to newer users. If you want to see it and then save it in 3D for use as a shutter symbol, you need to first revise/change it as a 3D entity and then load it in 3D or save it in a 3D format that SP can use for the model reference. If you have access to AutoCAD, SketchUp or another 3D program that can manipulate a copy of a current shutter you can do it that way.

Otherwise you can use 3D Solid objects in SP and set your offsets, sizes, etc., then load in 3D and save as a 3D DWG or other format. I typically like 3DS as it seems to save textures best for me, but maybe I haven't tried other options that have been updated recently.
