Hi,
How do you draw a vaulted gable? I have used two walls and rake the bottom of both, but surely there is a better way. It would also work to edit an arch if we could make an arch like that. What are your ideas?

if this is what your want.
draw the arch with 3 lines,
2 diagonals and one horizontal.
go into system library / elev opening / arch
and do a "one step" and draw a box around the
arch drawn from lines.
give it a name.
than go to OPENINGS library / arch
and make it an arch opening.

I assume this is what the original question was about. I've not ever been able to figure out a way to do this in softplan and show in 3D. I either draw it with lines on the elevations or do a wall out on the end with an arch. It would be nice if the gable end would follow the ceiling.

ben,
did you want an arch (no glazing)
or
a window (with glazing)
a quick and easy way is to use >
window / specialty / trapezoid
NOTE: the trapezoid windows
has an "auto top" that slopes to the
pitch of the roff that it's "DIRECTLY" under as noted in illustration
note: you can have glazing in this trapezoid window or no glazing.

Randy...you always think outside the box!!! That would actually be an easy way to do that...put in a trapezoid...fit to ceiling...then turn the glass off so all you are left with is opening and trim if wanted...How come I never think of these kinds of things???

sam,
could it be you haven't really returned from Woodstock ?
of course i'm kidding sam, you come up with lots of great tips.
and you all should look into creating an "auto slope top" / "trapezoid" top
on openings / doors and windows.

I know this is an old thread but I'm hoping Randy or someone else can help me out. I've used Randys method with the trap window and vaulted gable end and it works famously...except it leaves a thin strip at the bottom that I can't seem to get rid of, ideas anyone?

Make the "window" 1/8" deeper than the wall ...

Where do I turn off the "Glazing" for the trapezoid window?

same as other windows.
only caveat i supose is if you created the opening using the line method, e.g. elevation opening then opening and used lines to create your grills then you'll be unable to remove w/o creating another elevation opening w/o those grid lines. (i use this method for super strange custom units)
i seen a randy post at the beginning of this....he is missed! RIP
SORRY YOU SAID GLAZING...THOUGHT IT WAS GRILLES
